Wide-Jawed Viciria

Viciria Praemandibularis

Description:

This spider is a jumping spider with very long front legs, which when I first found it, I thought it was a scorpion. After doing further research, I have found that this is a male species and was roughly 1 cm in length. On top of that, this spider has a venomous bite that paralyses prey. The colour is mostly black with yellow legs and a light red stripe going down its back. Its head has 2 antennas as shown in the picture. This spider seems timid as when we went up close to take a photo, it leaped up onto the other side of the leaf.

Habitat:

This species lives in Singapore in a secondary tropical rainforest. This spider likes to be hidden out of plain sight. We found it on the bottom side of a leaf, and after doing additional research, we found that it likes hiding in foliage.
