Dragon fruit (Pitaya)

Hylocereus genus, belonging to the Cactaceae family

Description:

The fruits grow on a climbing cactus that develops long branches that travel along fences, scale walls, and wrap around trellises. Dragon fruits are native to Central and South America and are also known as Red Pitahaya or Red Pitaya.

Habitat:

The plant is still in its pot and growing up through a native (Australian), guava tree. I live in what's called the dry tropics in Qld. Au. Temp here is between 10'c early am in Winter to 35+'c in summer.

Notes:

I couldn't be bothered putting up a trellis for it & I have a few growing up through various trees and bushes around the yard :)
