Burchell's zebra (Equus burchellii); Grevy's zebra (Equus grevyi)

Description:

Size: 45 to 55 inches at the shoulder (Burchell's); 50 to 60 inches Lifespan: 40 years in captivity Habitat: Woodlands to open plains Diet: Herbivores Gestation: 12 months (Burchell's); 13 months (Grevy's) Predators: Lions, hyenas, hunting dogs, leopards, cheetahs

Habitat:

The name "zebra" comes from the Old Portuguese word zevra which means "wild ass".

Notes:

"It has a long tail, covered with long white flowing hair" Man, we felt sorry for this guy. He cant swat away the flies. Although the little stump was moving. We had many discussions over how he lost his tail. It seemed neatly off. So not sure if is was ripped by predators. What do you think?
