Tarnished Plant Bug

Lygus lineolaris

Description:

A small bug with varying brown and lighter striping and light markings. Prefers to move away by walking around the plant rather than fly. They feed on many different plants including a large amount of commercially grown crops. According to Bugguide.net, this is the most common Plant Bug in the USA.

Habitat:

Suburban backyard garden.

Notes:

I have seen these guys before but never was able to get a good picture of them. They are surprisingly colorful and beautifully patterned for such a small insect.
