Red Lion Fish

Pterois volitans

Description:

This particular lion fish was probably the biggest one that I have ever seen. It was out hunting a school of small silver fish that was hovering inside a small crevasse.

Habitat:

Coral Reef. Took the picture at Sepoc Wall.

Hi Albert.
I looked online and couldn't find anything written about the long spine lionfish. I don't have the Reef Fish Identification book you are referring to. I checked a number of books that I have and doesn't mention the Long spine Lionfish? Any online sources I could look at?

Andrew, this is probably not Pterois volitans but Prerois sp (Long spine Lionfish). Am referring to Page 371 of Reef Fish Identification - Tropical Pacific
