ten-lined June beetle

Description:

A type of scarab beetle which as a brown body with yellow and white scales each located within a puncture; elytra with broad white stripes; antennal plates very large.They can make a hissing sound when touched or otherwise disturbed, which can resemble the hissing of a bat. This sound is made by their wings pushing down, forcing the air out between their wings and back.

Habitat:

western United States and Canada.
