Unknown, we have seen it on patio furniture, the swing set and some trees.

Hi Paisley,

Nice spotting. I'm sure its a fly called a Robber fly. They are extremely adept predators, feeding largely on other insects. Really neat to see up close. A good capture as, like you mention, they are very fast fliers. I'm adding a link to more pictures and information about Robber flies.
