Eastern Box Turtle

Description:

The eastern box turtle can grow up to 7 inches long. Its shell is a defining characteristic. They are brown or black with yellowish blotches. These help the turtle blend in with fallen leaves. Did you know wild eastern box turtles can live over 100 years?

Habitat:

The eastern box turtle lives in deciduous forests. They like moist forest floors. In hotter climates, the turtle can be found cooling off in small ponds and streams.
