African Elephant

Loxodonta africana

Habitat:

Marula/Knob thorn open tree savannah

Notes:

Arrived at the waterhole while we were looking for birds. They slowly made their way around the edge of the waterhole, gathering more members all the time, until something at the far side caused them to stampede.

Wow that is a amazing will look forward to seeing them.. I just found this sight about two weeks ago and has really brightened my days to find such beauty so easily. Making me look at the world more opened eyed. Amazing the amount of wild life right before us and we don't see. Every time I'm out in the woods, I think I know there is so much wild life hiding from me... I cant even imagine how it would be to see such large wild animals in their habitat... Such smart or instinctive to hide so well for protection.

I am hoping to load a lot more over the next few months. We spent 4 days in Kruger park and only saw a tiny portion of it but we did see some incredible sights, including baby elephants being born, although we didn't realise it at the time, they covered it up so well. After it was over they walked two tiny pinkish elephants right past us!

I'm sure.. I've seen them at the circus and zoo's, to see them in the wild. I haven't traveled much but this sight has given me a great view of the world. yes, I bet it would have been a bit frightful. Thank you so much for sharing. The wildest I've ever seen is the whales off New England..

It was, but would have been alarming if it had happened next to us!
