Asclepias syriaca L.
Common Milkweed are perennial plants that grow to 2-6' tall. The leaves to these plants are dull green and are oval shaped. The leaves are oppositely arranged on the central stem and are up to 8'' long and 3½" wide. There is a prominent central vein along the length of each leaf, and finer side veins that radiate outward toward the smooth margins. This plant produces flowers with a blooming period that lasts for about a month, from early to mid-summer.This plant is very popular with many kinds of insects which seek its nectar.
Found along a wetland named SEAC Creek on Mahopac High School property.
