Black Rhino

Diceros bicornis

Description:

Just as we were exiting the reserve a Black Rhino came strolling down the road. They are very special to see, as their numbers are less than the White Rhino. We were lucky!

Notes:

The species overall is classified as critically endangered, and one subspecies, the Western Black Rhinoceros, was declared extinct by the IUCN in 2011. Location deliberately altered to prevent poaching

This demand for Rhino horn has created highly profitable and organized international poaching criminal syndicates who deploy advanced technologies ranging from night vision scopes, silenced weapons, darting equipment and helicopters to carry out their mission. It has become a WAR.
