This is the ID I came up with on my own, so confirmation or a suggestion of something else would be appreciated! Black, finger-shaped fungus with a lighter inside.

Habitat:

Growing at the base of a tree in a mostly oak forest near a creek.

Thanks Jae! It being old makes sense, it was pretty difficult to break open to see the inside

Nice spotting, Ashley, and from my limited knowledge the ID seems about right. I think it's an old specimen though, because the flesh is normally chalk white. Xylaria longipes could also be a good candidate, but from what I read it usually has a cracked surface and a club-shaped head.
