Salicornia

Salicornia bigeloviias

Description:

Fleshy plant with horizontal stem and erect lateral branches.

Habitat:

Marshy areas, salty soil areas.

Notes:

This plant's ability to survive the high salinity of soil makes it unique and useful. I was fascinated to learn how salicornia is being studied as a source of valuable byproducts and also a nutrient removal tool at Corpus Christi's Texas A & M University.
