I have used them in my gardens for years, both for their beauty and reported deterrence to pest insects. The only ability I know to be scientifically verified is to reduce parasitic nematode populations in soil, the French types being most useful in this regard.

Thank you chesterperry, i was told that they were planted to keep bugs away but i don't know how true that is.

The strong scent is probably from the foliage and not the flowers.
