A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Marmota broweri
Broad heads, short necks and bushy tails characterize the marmot. Marmots are related to both ground squirrels and prairie dogs. One of 14 recognized species can be found throughout the Northern hemisphere.
The Alaska Marmot lives in the northern polar areas near lakes and often on mountain slopes and in moraines.
These omnivores drop their body temperature to a few degrees Celsius during the winter months and go into a deep torpor.
