Key to ID is color of horn and number/kind of stripes; The tobacco hornworm larva (Manduca sexta) is generally green with 7 diagonal white lines on the sides and a curved red horn. The tomato hornworms (Manduca quinquemaculata) have 8 V-shaped marks on each side and their horn is straighter and blue-black in color. Tracy is correct.

I agree with LuvjoyChoker the tomato hornworms have a green horn and tobacco have red, i spelt tobacco wrong in my ID suggestion sorry...
