Wild Flag Iris

Iris setosa

Description:

This area is plentiful with wildflowers, with so much foliage you can't see the ground in most parts.

Habitat:

On a trail on Near Island with dense plant growth. Kodiak receives a lot of rain year-round

Notes:

Iris setosa is one of the hardiest species of irises, but does needs a cold dormant period in winter, and so does not do as well in warm climates. This is the only iris species that is native to both Asia and North America.

Given the distance at which I live and the relative expenses it will most likely be a "once in a life time" but I hope I can make ever make it :-)

I have some taken late at night so they're not that great, but I will see if I have any decent ones to post. And yes, I agree; I love Kodiak! For such a small place, is a great place to enjoy nature and a lot of species diversity.
