Virginia Opossum

Didelphis virginiana

Description:

marsupial

Habitat:

Found near a bridal trail through thin woods, near a small stream.

Notes:

Spotted first on the ground. It then climbed the tree in the photos and stopped about 5 feet off the ground and froze, as if thinking, "If I don't move, that human won't see me." I was about 10 feet away when I took these pictures.

Cool spotting - I usually only see them late at night so it's nice to see a daylight photo of one in its habitat.
