The Canada goose is a large wild goose species with a black head and neck, white cheeks, white under its chin, and a brown body.
The most widely distributed geese in North America, with a range that stretches across the Arctic and temperate regions of North America. They also occur in northern Europe, on the Kamchatka Peninsula in eastern Siberia, eastern China and throughout Japan. The sub-species commonly found to reside in Maryland is the giant Canada goose. This sub-species is aptly named with adults weighing upwards of 14 pounds.
