Julia Butterfly

Description:

Two times a week, for about two hours, I open the garage door, all the way open. Then I put a table, in the center of the garage. On the table, I put an assortment of fruit, and some freshly cut flowers, from my backyard butterfly garden. I put all these items on this table, to attract all types of insects, day-flying moths, butterflies, etc. This is done, in the early afternoon. Then I sit in a chair with my camera, and wait! Once, a Julia Butterfly came into the garage, and landed on this table, to feed. After a couple of minutes of feeding and resting, this Julia Butterfly, started flying, and landed on a small table, which was right next to where I was sitting. I jumped up, and I started to take some photos of this butterfly. After about forty five seconds, this Julia Butterfly started flying, and then flew out of this garage. After about ten seconds, this Julia Butterfly was far a way, and out of my sight. The host for the Julia Butterfly, is passionvine. They only use a few species of passionvine. Common name: Julia Longwing Butterfly Other Names: The Flame, Flambeau, Julia Heliconian. Phylum: Arthropoda Order: Lepidoptera Family: Nymphalidae.

Habitat:

This butterfly, is a fast flier. It frequents clearings, paths, and margins of forests and woodlands. It is a native to Brazil, but has made a home in Florida and Texas, even venturing as far north as Nebraska. Subtropical hammock openings and edges, and nearby fields.

Notes:

I spotted this Julia Butterfly, flying into my garage, to feed from a table, that included many varieties of fruit, and freshly cut flowers, taken from my backyard butterfly garden.
