Thanks Martin, yes it looks like they are emerging from a shell, the shells up close had red lines; which I initially thought were a type of bug??I will keep watching the purple dames to see whether this occurs again!

Your red creature seems to be emerging from a black shell. Is that what you think is happening? I don't think they are beetles. I hope someone recognizes what is happening on this lavender plant. The eggs look like hemipteran bugs.
