Hmm. I didn't know there were so many black bears in your area. Or maybe it's because they are co-existing so closely with humans. Yeah, a little sad. There are very few bears here ... although I have a friend who insists she saw a black bear running across the dam a couple of weeks ago. At any rate, welcome to Project Noah!
suzmonk Thanks for your kind comments. I do have to wear a bell when I walk around my yard in late spring and sometimes in summer. They are generally shy animals but lovely to have around form time to time. You will find some other comments if you visit my Flickr set. They are probably controlled by the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife. About 600 of them were culled last winter I believe. Sad but perhaps neccesary?
Wow, wonderful ... if a little scary. You should post a spotting with the cubs! And you can post up to six shots with each spotting. I notice she's wearing a collar. Do you know anything about who's tracking her?
