Basket Stinkhorn

Clathrus ruber

Description:

It has an egg shaped fruiting body. When the white veil stretches and peels away it reveals red, spongy latticed or interlaced "arms". This fungus has a horrible odor and attracts a lot of flies, but it's awesome to look at!

Habitat:

It's feeding off wood mulch chips in a shaded part of my yard.
