Texas brownsnake

Description:

This snake has a light tan to gray mid-dorsal stripe bordered on each side by pairs of dark spots. The ground color below the stripe varies from gray-brown to reddish-brown. Some individuals have thin, faded crossbands connecting the pairs of dorsal spots, especially in the eastern 1/4 of Oklahoma. The sides of the body are darker than the mid-dorsal stripe. There is a dark spot under each eye and a black blotch on either side of the neck. There are seven upper labial scales and some of these have dark markings. The scales are keeled and the belly is plain yellow, brown, or pink. The lateral edge of the belly may have small, black dots. A fully grown female is larger than a fully grown male. The juvenile has a yellow band across the neck and a dark colored back. (information from "A Field Guide to Oklahoma's Amphibians and Reptiles")
