Black and Yellow Argiope

Argiope aurantia

Description:

Large, black spider about 20mm (not legs) with yellow patterned abdomen. The cephalothorax is gray and the base of each leg is red. The web is an orb with a zig-zag pattern through the middle. I couldn't get a front shot without destroying the web.

Habitat:

riparian area at trailhead. Found in most of the lower 48 states and eastern Canada.

Thank you patty! I add any spotting that was on, under, over or in an Oak to that mission. These spiders can be found in many habitats though. This particular one had every web end attached to an Oak so I figured it made sense :)
