A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Hylephila phyleus
The male fiery skipper is orange with jagged black around the wings and black forewing stigma. The female on the other hand is dark brown with orange spots. Ventral hindwing yellow-orange with small dark brown spots, very larger in females.
Their habitats are roadsides, disturbed sites, pastures, old fields, lawns, and gardens.
I took the pic in my back yard in August 2012. it landed on a railroad tie and i took a couple pics but that was the best one i took. I was waiting outside for about ten minutes to take the pic because it would not land. It was very pretty so that is why i am posting it.
