Red Ant-mimicking Spider (Male)

Myrmarachne plataleoides

Description:

A jumping spider that mimics the weaver ant in morphology and behaviour. By mimicking the ants they are able to stay close to them and gain protection from predators. Unlike the weaver ants, M. plataleoides does not bite people, and indeed seems rather timid. This jumper also mimics ant-like behaviour by the style of locomotion and by the way they wave their front legs like antennae to mimic the ants.

Habitat:

This species is found in India, Sri Lanka, China and many parts of Southeast Asia. They live in trees and bushes where the weaver ants live in colonies.

Notes:

This is my first time to spot an ant-mimicking spider! :)
