Praying Mantis

Mantidae

Description:

12-15 cm. All green color and a bit yelowish when exposed by the sunlight.

Habitat:

Grass and bushes.

Notes:

I found this gorgeous creature when I was in Pekanbaru Sumatra. It entered my room by coincidence and I managed to take several pictures before I released it on the front yard of my friend's house. I don't know the exact scientific name for this praying mantis. In Indonesia we called it belalang sentadu or belalang sembah. Some of the natives name for this species are 'Congcorang' (Sundanese/Batavia), 'Walang Kadung/Kèkèk' (Javanese), and Mentadak (Malay).

Hi squaresolid! I love your mantid! It was great that you included some local info. I am glad to have learned new names for the Mantids in your area!

I just wanted to let you know that I have removed it from the Assassin Bug mission since it is not an Assassin Bug. Maybe if my Mantid Mission expands it can join it (it's local right now).
