All Black upper and gray belly. This one looked about 4 feet long and more than an inch in diameter at its widest.
Found this one draped over branches of short shrub near open woodland.

Indeed it did. About a week later we found the outer skin it shed in our garden.
Lovely spotting...looks like it is going to shed soon too,
