I agree with Goliath Heron. Looks like this was taken in Balboa Park, so I'd guess the San Diego Zoo.

Def a Goliath heron...nonnative species

Its not a reddish egret. It looks closer to a subadult Tricolored Heron. My question however, was this in a zoo or captivity? It actually looks most like the Goliath Heron: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goliath_Her... which is a sub-saharan Africa bird.
