Salix arctica
Photographed near Arctic Watch, this willow is extremely old. They only seem to grow about an inch off the ground, and spread out as far as 5 feet or so. The leaders of the youth expedition were describing how on a year over year basis, they were noticing the plants growing faster with the warming changes taking place in the north. They grow extremely slowly; basically the summer at Arctic Watch is only about two months. The time period is short!
