Tussock moth caterpillar

Orgyia sp.

Description:

3/8 inch long

Habitat:

spotted on dead twig in backyard

Notes:

I believe this may be a tussock moth caterpillar. The dark spot at the rear is a hole and shows the caterpillar to be a hollow shell.

This is true (I was thinking because of its degredation the face was uncovered). So the best guess is Orgyia sp. Thanks for the help.

Perhaps, though the faces are different. While this has an Orgyia/tussock moth face, the Stinging Nettle Slug Caterpillar's face is unable to be seen.

I did further checking and came across this possibility:

Awesome find! Maybe it was parasitized. Looks like it once was Orgyia sp., too tattered for me to say Orgyia detrita.
