Greyish green hanging lichen. Lichen is a combination of two organisms working together, a fungus and photosynthetic partner, usually an algae. Each gets water and mineral nutrients from the atmosphere, rain and dust.
On a hackberry tree in a bottomland forest at Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center. The CCNHC serves as a gateway to the approximately 2900 acres comprised of rare bottomland habitat, surprisingly diverse flora and fauna, all surrounding the confluence of Clear Creek and the Elm Fork of the Trinity River.
