Anna's Hummingbird

Calypte anna

Description:

Humming Bird making her nest on our Edison light in our back yard. She built her next around Feb 16th and was spotted Feb 20th. I believe that is the day she laid her egg. Unfortunately we have not seen her in the next since. It is now March 16th and we looked to see if she had eggs. From what I have read the eggs should be due to hatch any day (16-23 day gestation) I am just not sure if it will as I have not seen her on the egg.

Habitat:

Suburban back yard that backs up to a park. There is a green space a block away.

Notes:

We often have hummingbirds in our area year round as it is very temperate. The birds frequent the flowers in our yard and sit in the Willow Tree or Pepper Tree in the park behind our yard.

If you haven't seen mom in awhile, that means she hasn't been incubating the egg and it probably died. Something may have happened to mom, can be a tough world out there!

Sadly we have not seen the mother for a while and the egg is still in the nest. It has been over 30 days and from what I have read the egg should have hatched by now.
