Yellow-belted Fruit Chafer

Description:

Identification: Medium-sized (body length 25 mm). Pronotum black, punctured, with yellow margins. Elytra punctured, without grooves, black, with transverse bright irregular yellow band.

Habitat:

Eastern savanna areas, excluding highveld. Found in all forests.

Notes:

Biology: Adults feed on various flowers and fruits, and also on sap flows. Sometimes attracted to beehives. Larvae develop in humus. Related species: Pedinorrhina trivittata is superficially similar but much smaller (body length 16 mm), and is more variable, some forms with brown coloration.
