Ludicra Jumping Spider -female

Sandalodes superbus (Bavia ludicra)

Description:

A robust looking jumping spider ( Salticid) with a dark brown hairy body with a distinct creamy white pattern along the midline of the abdomen. It had a pair of prominent dark eyes on the front of the head with a smaller eye on either side. There were two sets of smaller eyes on the back of the head. Front legs appeared strong and there were a pair of hairy palps.

Habitat:

On eucalyptus trees. This one was spotted at the front of the house.

Notes:

She seemed very curious and was not intimidated by my presence-she kept turning her head to look at me ! Males are said to be very different looking, as can be seen on the web link. Saticidae is a family of colourful spiders with good vision because of the number and placement of eyes. So pleased to have spotted this big girl...
