American Goldfinch

Description:

Male American Goldfinch feeding on coneflower seeds.

Habitat:

A residential area in the prairie demonstration project at Aldo Leopold Middle School in Burlington, Iowa, which features a broad mixture of prairie forbs and grasses and a large limestone outcrop. The bird was surrounded by blazing star, big bluestem, aster, leadplant, and lobelias.

Notes:

Loved catching this splash of color against the dull seedheads of the coneflowers. He was quite patient while I shot multiple pics.
