Canis mesomelas
The top of the back and neck are black, heavily mottled with silvery white patches. the flanks,les and head are reddish buff and rich chesnut red, separated from the back by a black line. The bushy tail is the same colour of the flanks.( Smithers' mammals of southern africa a field guide. fourth edition)
Desertic habitat near costline
it was strolling around a seal colony, watching for unguarded cubs. Maybe a hybrid with feral dogs.

Frazier, as I can remember this specimen lived on a wide beach near a south african seal colony, next to the beach there were some trees but it was pretty deserctic.
I think it had little food, or maybe the little distance to civilty made him encounter the feral dog illnesses...
For habitat, what is the specific habitat of THIS spotting? Thanks
