Brown bear, smeđi medvjed

Description:

The brown bear has a thick body that ends with a short tail, pointy nose, rounded ears and sharp teeth. May drag prey 300 kg. By the diet is omnivores. It feeds on other animals (insects, fish, carrion and small mammals) strawberries and grass, and sometimes larger animals such as deer. Brown bear's heavier than 150 kg (European brown bear) and long 2 to 3.3 meters. When stand up straight on its hind legs can be high 3.8 m. The shoulders are high 100-180 cm, and in the summer they put on weight by 180 kg. Average territory of each individual is 250 km, and these animals lead a solitary life (except for the mating season, which begins in late May and ends in early July). Doesn't sleep true hibernation, it can be easily wake up.

Habitat:

Spotted in Shelter for young bears Kuterevo. Many adults bear are killed by people, cars...behind them remain orphans who can not survive alone in the wilderness, and shelter mission is to take care for orphans bear and to protect its habitats in Velebit and Gorski Kotar. Unfortunatelly, when orphan bear grows up, it's used to live with people and often stay whole life in shelter.

Brown bear is protected in Croatia by the Law on Nature Protection, and it's forbidden to kill the bear.

Brown bear is very common in Velebit, I believe they are hiding from me :)
