Striped Basilisk

Basiliscus vittatus

Description:

Photo take in a path near a mangrove area this is a common reptile in this area about 40 cm long whit the tail, brown color whit yellow stripes along the body some black marks on top this one is a male do to the high crest on the head. This one will grow up to 1 mt long some day. Smaller basilisks can run about 10-20 metres on the water without sinking. Young basilisks can usually run farther than older ones. Also Know as (Jesus Lizard).

Habitat:

They are native of México, Panama, Belize, northwestern Colombia and Costa Rica, but have been introduced in U.S.
