Gorkom's Stick Insect

Rhamphosipyloidea gorkomi

Description:

This is Rhamphosipyloidea gorkomi (Hausleitner, 1990) is pretty much all light green in colour. The body is approx. 10 to 11 cm. long and the antennae are almost as long. I gently picked it up to try and take a picture away from the green background and it had a powerful grip that I did not expect.

Habitat:

This slow moving creature blends in extremely well with the foliage it was crawling on and I assume that it gets its common name from the fact that it looks like a stick. I spotted it at the side of a narrow road moving slowly around on dense foliage. The elevation was around 200 feet on a hillside overlooking the South China Sea.
