Cedar of Lebanon

Cedrus libani

Description:

Beautiful true cedar. Evergreen tree of medium size. Gets a wide canopy with age.

Habitat:

Suburban front lawn.

Notes:

Driving down the street, we saw this tree and had to stop. I asked the owner what kind of tree it was and he told me it was a Lebanon Cedar. He said that 10 of them were planted in Marietta, GA 110 years ago and that this was one of two left. He said they just saved it from death. He said it was completely covered in ivy and kudzu. I asked him if he minded me taking some photos of it and he reluctantly agreed. After about 4 or 5 quick shots, he quickly changed his mind and ran me off. I asked if I could just get a couple of closeups of the cone and needles but he refused and told me to leave. I thanked him and left. I was very excited to have seen it though.
