Common bulrush - Massette à larges feuilles

Typha latifolia

Description:

The common bulrush is a plant native to North and South America, Europe, parts of Asia, and Africa, and which is associated with wetlands. It can reach up to 2.5 m high. The female spikes are blackish brown, and can reach 20 cm. It can be distinguished from other types of bulrushes/cattails by the width of its leaves (1-2 cm)

Habitat:

Wetlands, alt. 1300 m

Notes:

The rhizomes of plants in the genus Typha are edible. Evidence of preserved starch grains on grinding stones suggests they were eaten in Europe 30,000 years ago.

So stark and beautiful. I love finding beauty and life in what seems to be the dead of winter.
