A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Procyon lotor
Raccoons range from 1-3 feet long from head to butt and can weigh up to 25 lbs! In the wild they can live up to 3 years but in captivity they can live up to 20. They use their fur to keep them warm during winter and also to act as camouflage towards predators. Raccoons are very dexterous; they can use their fingers and toes very well. This can gain them access into jars, containers, and even houses.
These mammals can be found in the wild as well as in neighborhoods. They live anywhere that is near water. They prefer to sleep in confined areas such as: hollowed out tree stumps, sewers, chimneys, and even in attics. They have a large diet, eating things from bugs and plants to garbage out of garbage cans.

Yes, this raccoon was found in my neighbors attic. We used a cage to capture it and returned it to the wild.
Welcome to Project Noah! Is there a story for this cute raccoon (why it's in a cage, etc.)?
