Calcinus laevimanus

Description:

Calcinus laevimanus is named for its black and white pincers and the white bands on its dark legs. It has long brilliant blue eyestalks that have an orange upper half. It also has an enlarged left claw used to block entrance to its shell when threatened.

Habitat:

Inter-tidal areas, Indo-Pacific

Notes:

Left-handed Hermit Crab (Calcinus laevimanus) on a Crenulated Auger shell (Terebra crenulata). Spotted this beauty at an inter-tidal zone of Apo Island in Mindoro Occidental, Philippines.
