Hairy woodpecker

Description:

Gorgeous bird with black feathers along the wings, white belly, red band on the back of the neck for males (I saw a female/ no red) and an obvious white oval patch on their backs. With a black and white striping pattern on the tips of their wings.

Habitat:

Woods, pine tree forested area

Great shot!! I'm wondering if it's a Downy instead of a Hairy woodpecker...the only identifying marks I know are the downy's beak's length is about half the width of the head, while the hairy's beak's length is about the same width as the head...this one looks kind of short...this might just be perspective though! ;-)
