Green Turtle

chelonia midas

Description:

I'm so glad to have had the opportunity to witness a sea turtle in the wild. They are so threatened that their future is uncertain. This turtle was was sleeping in the surface and when we passed in the boat it woke up and went underwater.

Habitat:

Subtropical Pacific coast

Great spotting Luis :) is hard to see them when they emerge to get air it only take some seconds and dive again this is a green sea turtle / chelonia midas It is usually lightly colored, although parts of the carapace can be almost black in the eastern Pacific.

Lucky spotting! I used to see a sea turtle on a daily basis in the summer at my favorite swimming hole, but I haven't seen him in over two years. I'm afraid the increase of motor boats and surfers in the area has scared him away.
