Snapping Turtle

Chelydra serpentina

Description:

About 3 inches long, and dark in color. They felt really light!

Notes:

A student in my nature class was given some snapping turtle eggs to care for that an acquaintance rescued from a construction zone. When they hatched, we got to release them into the bay! It was unbelievable to think that such tiny creatures that fit into the palm of my hand would one day grow to be such large snappers.
