Ant-mimic Spider

Description:

Had it not been for the many pictures I have been seeing on PN, I'd have passed by this rather large "ant" that was feeding on an insect. It had a yellow band on its abdomen and 4 legs on each side! Eight legs...it was an AHA moment . And it jumped when it saw me and focussed spidey eyes on me. I KNEW what it was ...an ant-mimic spider. My first one ever. It let me take a few shots then jumped and disappeared.

Habitat:

Kayaler bagan or Kayal's garden is now a bird sanctuary in the heart of Kolkata city. Although called a garden, it is not a landscaped area with only decorative garden varieties...rather everything growing wild is preserved. So old epi-phyte laden trees rub branches with bamboo groves and wild vines trail all over so called weeds flourish. It was literally raining mangoes when we visited yesterday and all sorts of organisms were having a feast. It is also called Chintamani Kar Bird Sanctuary.

Notes:

Thanks PN According to the website on Chintamani Kar Bird Sanctuary, the ant -mimic spider found here is: Myrmarachne sp
