Black Spotted Prominent

Asteroid Caterpillar?

Description:

A coworker Donna Stuart spotted this little guy on our trail. We have looked and looked and the closest we can find to his markings is an Asteroid Caterpillar. However none that have the yellow crown, yellow pinchers or false eyes at both ends. Can anyone verify he is an asteroid rare color morph or do you know what he actually is? UPDATE: After further investigation I have identified this myself as a Black Spotted Prominent it isn't extremely commonplace in WV and wasn't coming up with my search criteria.

Habitat:

wooded area in North Central West Virginia
